I believe the 'original' state of VT is center weighted.
What I wonder is WHY the side body style was adapted? What was/is the problem/problems that it is the solution for? As mentioned in an earlier post, I suspect it is enviromentally motivated. This is nothing new in martial arts. In the north amarican prison system, there is a collection of fighting arts nicknamed ' Jailhouse Rock'. Jailhouse Rock  varieties all reflect the unique restrictive environments shared by prisons. What kind of natural weopons are available?(is there porcilyn for shanks, what is the gauge of metal used for fixturs?), what kind of shackles are used for restraint? Are the gates bar/plexiglass/Solid? Most of the 'techniques' themselves don't change from prison to prison much but the individual differences based on environment are many.
I'm really conjecturing here but  I think there is a kind of 'hinge' effect that opens and closes the 'side body solution', the center body mode being recovered to after the side body  stratagy is activated. Again if that is even remotely true, strict adherence to the tool orientation of each mode seems to be a must and they can't be mix up.

Some one e- mailed me the other day asking why I do the 'Chum Kiu on the narrow tea bench.'
Well, besides the fact I'm a show off,  my sifu showed me, one time, the benifit of training on the tea bench and I thought it would make a good demo of VT stability in movement.
VT in general and WSL style specifically subscribe to the idea of recovery of energy always. This is why, umongst other things, our kicking technique is so curious. The tea bench will tell you when your energy is not being recovered effeciently. You should be able to do all VT forms on the bench without any 'skip', wobble or movement of the bench. If you can do this with full power and speed and not loose your balance or fall off,,,you can leave the Siu Lum temple. :)

If you do not believe me, try it for your self.
It is true, benches don't hit back.... But the truth is where you find it....

I am almost ready for the Secret pt. 3. That will include the footwork aspect previously mentioned and finally my wrap up of this crazy theory in a final essay. Then I'll shut up about it.
At this point I want to beat a tired point.
I believe EVERYTHING I have been told by the elders. My hope is, not only to prove my little point, but to prove that ALL the masters have been telling the truth of their instruction and experiences with Ip Man despite the fact that they differ.
I have several documents from the VTAA  officially stating that 'There are no 'secret' moves in VT nor are there multiple styles. There is only one VT."
  Huh?
At first it seems, givin what I've shown here, that there deffinatly is more than one kind of VT. What is the logic that would prove ALL the masters right? Simple.... There is more than one kind foundational VT but the intention is to use them together!!! The final secret, only shared by the top masters, is the linking theory that brings the foundations together in an absolute, unstoppable combat structure.
     Ip Man knew this link.
It is a very chinese type of mystery to include this kind of secret. Guarded by the knowlage of mans basic arrogence and pride that would naturally avoid this kind of conclusion.  A very good hiding place for knowlage is behind human pride. A Large shadow indeed.

Hi Thomas,

I like to add some thoughts and I don´t want to sell it to you as everlasting truth but do look at it like an input to think about.
My experiences goes that way that it´s all about honesty!!!
You can lie to your self and you can lie to weaker or anxiously students but you can´t lie to an aggressive fighter that´s even bigger or stronger than you.
I tell you what ever you see in Videos or on photos has nothing to do with reality.
If you as I stupid wisely did watch instructional videos and try to learn it by practicing it with your students there is a big problem.
You have to be aware of the fact that the demonstrating sifu and his favorite student has arranged everything.
If the sifu demonstrates lop sao and crossing hand techniques the student let pull down his hands very easyly and after his hands are drawn he willing holds down his crossed hands so that his sifu can demonstrate any fancifully techniques he likes.
If the student would try to defend him self as hard as he could you would see that 90 percent of what you see in the video won´t work any longer.
It also has to do with big names.
If you would go to GJK,PhB or GL to train with them or to learn from them you would never try to attack them as hard as you could because you are afraid of your armageddon. ;D
So you won´t be a threat for them anyway and you won´t stress their positions very hard so that they mustn´t take a very good position or body structure to deflect your attacks. It´s a bit like driving a taxi.If the driver tells you that he want to have 10 Euro,Dollar or what ever you certainly wouldn´t say no I give you a hundred. You will only give as much as you absolute have to.
Some of them can give much more and some of them only pretend that they can give much more... ;)
What happens if they realy have to deal an enemy who isn´t afraid of their name or their sifu´s name you can try to imagine on your own.Open your eyes and test it on your own what works best in training.
Tell your best student or sparrings partner to attack you as hard as he could and then try it out wich turning works best.
Be honest to your self and if it have to be butcher your holy cows.

my kindly regards

Ralf
